Google Ads Lead Form Extensions are great at capturing leads and surprisingly bad at handing them over. Out of the box you get two options: download a CSV by hand (and Google only stores leads for 30 days), or configure a webhook, which means developer time most teams don’t have.
This guide shows the third option: send Google Ads leads to Google Sheets automatically with LeadSync. Every new lead appears as a row in your sheet within a minute or two, and setup takes about five minutes with no code.
Why Send Google Ads Leads to a Google Sheet?
A spreadsheet is the lowest-friction lead database there is:
- Everyone can use it. No CRM licenses or training. Share the sheet with whoever needs it.
- It’s a permanent record. Google Ads deletes lead data after 30 days. Your sheet keeps everything.
- It’s flexible. Filter by campaign, add follow-up status columns, build charts, or feed a Looker Studio dashboard.
- It plays well with others. Use the sheet as your working record while the same leads also flow to email notifications or a CRM.
What You’ll Need
- A LeadSync account (free 7-day trial)
- A Google Ads account with an active Lead Form Extension (called lead form assets in newer accounts)
- A Google Sheet with a header row matching the fields you want to capture
Step 1: Connect Your Google Ads Account to LeadSync
- Log in to your LeadSync account
- Go to Ad Accounts from the left menu
- Click Add Google Account
- Sign in to your Google account and authorize LeadSync to access your ad accounts
- Select the Google Ads account containing your lead form
Make sure the Google account you authorize has access to the ad account running your Lead Form Extensions.
Step 2: Create Your Google Sheet
Create a sheet where your leads will land. Add a header row with a column for each field in your lead form, for example: Name, Email, Phone, plus any custom qualifying questions. You can also add columns for campaign metadata like Campaign Name and Form Name.
One tip from support experience: once the connection is live, treat the header row as read-only. Renaming or deleting header cells can misalign incoming lead data.
Step 3: Add a Google Sheets Connection
- In LeadSync, go to Connections โ Add Connection
- Select Google Sheets from the connection dropdown
- Log in to your Google account and approve LeadSync’s access
- Select the spreadsheet and the tab (sheet) you want leads written to
- Name your connection descriptively (e.g. “Google Ads Leads Sheet”) and click Update Connection
Step 4: Pair Your Google Lead Form with the Sheet
- Go to Lead Forms โ Add Google Lead Form
- Select your Google Ads account from the dropdown
- Select the Lead Form Extension you’re using in your campaign
- Select the Google Sheets connection you created in Step 3
- Map each form field to the matching sheet column
- Click Update Notification to save
Step 5: Test the Integration
Google doesn’t offer a public test tool for lead forms, so the simplest check is a real submission: preview your ad, submit the form yourself, and watch the sheet. Your test lead should appear as a new row within 1-2 minutes, with each value in the column you mapped.
If nothing arrives, verify the Google account you connected has access to the ad account, the form you selected matches the one in your live campaign, and your field mapping includes the email field. Still stuck? See the troubleshooting guide.
Turning the Sheet into a Lightweight CRM
Plenty of LeadSync customers run their whole follow-up process from the sheet. A few easy upgrades:
- Add a Status column (New / Contacted / Quoted / Won) and a Notes column for your team
- Use conditional formatting to highlight rows where Status is still New after 24 hours
- Sort or filter by Campaign Name to see which campaigns produce leads that actually close
If that starts feeling cramped, our guide to using Google Sheets as a CRM covers the pattern in depth, and moving up to a real CRM later is a five-minute change in LeadSync.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Google Ads send leads to Google Sheets natively?
No. Google Ads offers CSV downloads (leads are only stored for 30 days) or a webhook integration that requires developer setup. There is no built-in option to sync leads to a Google Sheet automatically. LeadSync fills that gap with a no-code connection.
How fast do leads appear in the sheet?
Within 1-2 minutes of the form submission. LeadSync receives the lead from Google’s API and appends it to your sheet as a new row immediately.
Do I need to set up a webhook in Google Ads?
No. LeadSync connects to your Google Ads account via OAuth and picks up lead form submissions directly, so you skip the webhook configuration entirely.
Can I choose which columns the lead data goes into?
Yes. During setup you map each Google lead form field (name, email, phone, custom questions) to a column in your sheet. Unmapped fields are skipped.
What happens if I edit the sheet’s header row?
Don’t. LeadSync writes rows based on your column headers, so renaming or deleting header cells after setup can misalign incoming data. If you need to restructure, update the connection’s field mapping afterwards.
Can I send the same Google Ads leads to my CRM too?
Yes. LeadSync supports multiple destinations per lead form, so one submission can land in Google Sheets, your CRM, and your email inbox simultaneously.
