How LeadSync Sends SMS Lead Alerts via Twilio

LeadSync runs a single Twilio account behind every customer SMS notification, so there is nothing to set up on your side -- no Twilio sign-up, no number purchase, no API tokens. When a lead lands, LeadSync formats the alert from your custom template and POSTs to Twilio's messages API with the destination number you nominated, the rendered body, and the right sender ID for the destination country.

Each SMS is debited from a per-account SMS balance on your LeadSync subscription -- you can top this up from the dashboard. Before any send, LeadSync checks SmsHelper::getSmsBalance() and blocks the send (logging "out of SMS balance") rather than racking up unexpected costs if you have run out.

Sender IDs: When You See a Number vs Your Brand Name

Twilio enforces different sender rules per country. For US and Canadian destinations (+1), every SMS must come from a verified phone number -- alphanumeric senders are blocked outright. LeadSync sends those alerts from a US long-code number ("From: +1...") so they pass A2P 10DLC filtering.

For most other supported countries (Australia, France, Germany, Spain, India, etc.) Twilio allows an alphanumeric sender -- so the alert appears with "LeadSync" or your custom alpha-sender as the From header, which builds trust because you instantly know the message is genuine. Some countries (notably the UK) require additional sender registration and are not yet enabled -- check on the SMS settings screen before you rely on a specific country.

Customising the SMS Body and the 160-Character Trick

The SMS template supports placeholders -- #form for the form name, #page for the Facebook page or LinkedIn account name, and #phone for the lead's phone number -- so you can write something like "New lead on #form (#page) -- #phone" and have it render with live values on every send.

If your rendered message stays at or under 160 characters, LeadSync sends the body verbatim. If it overflows, LeadSync truncates to fit and appends a LeadViewToken URL pointing back to the lead detail page in your dashboard, so you never lose the full lead context -- just tap the link to see every field.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. LeadSync runs the Twilio account on your behalf and bills the SMS as part of your subscription via a top-up SMS balance. You only need to provide the destination phone number and customise the message template.
SMS delivery is country-dependent because Twilio enforces different sender ID rules per region. The US, Canada, and Australia are working today; many European countries are also supported. Some destinations (notably the UK) require additional sender registration that is in progress -- check the country dropdown on the SMS settings screen for the current list.
It depends on the destination country. US and Canadian numbers always show a phone number sender (Twilio rule). Most other supported countries show an alphanumeric sender like "LeadSync" or a custom alpha-ID configured for your account.
Within seconds in the vast majority of cases. LeadSync queues the alert immediately when the lead webhook hits, and Twilio typically delivers in 1-3 seconds. Total time from "user taps Submit" to "phone buzzes" is usually under 5 seconds.
Yes. The SMS template supports #form (lead form name), #page (the Facebook page or LinkedIn account name the lead came from), and #phone (the lead's phone number). You can write any free text around them -- for example: "New lead on #form via #page. Phone: #phone".
LeadSync truncates the rendered body to fit within a single SMS segment and appends a short LeadViewToken URL pointing back to the full lead detail page in your LeadSync dashboard. Tap the link to see every field the lead submitted.
Yes -- create multiple SMS connections, one per destination number, and assign them all to the same lead source. Every new lead triggers an SMS to each connected number in parallel. Useful for sales teams who want both the rep and a manager to get the alert.
New SMS sends are blocked and an "out of SMS balance" error is logged on your Logs tab. Email and CRM notifications keep working as normal -- only SMS is affected. Top up your SMS balance from the dashboard and the next lead's alert will send immediately.
Yes -- each SMS sent debits one credit from your account's SMS balance. Top-ups are available from the dashboard. Email notifications and CRM pushes are not metered this way and are included in your plan.
